Privacy Policy
How this business collects, uses, stores and discloses your personal and credit information, and what you can do about it.
Who This Policy Applies To
This policy applies to Mortgage Broker Ballarat and to personal information collected through this website or in the course of providing credit assistance. It is written to meet obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Australian Privacy Principles, and Part IIIA of that Act, which governs credit reporting information.
Information We Collect
Through this website, we collect what you enter into the enquiry form: your name, phone number, email address if you provide one, the type of lending you are asking about, and anything you write in the message field.
If you proceed beyond an initial enquiry, arranging credit requires considerably more: identification documents, income evidence such as payslips, tax returns or business financials, bank statements, details of your assets, liabilities and expenses, and information about the property involved. Some of this is sensitive, and some of it is credit information as defined by the Privacy Act.
Why We Collect It
Enquiry details are used to respond to your enquiry. Where you engage us, information is used to assess what you can borrow, identify suitable lenders, prepare and lodge applications on your behalf, and meet our legal obligations. Those obligations include responsible lending, the Best Interests Duty, and anti-money-laundering and identity verification requirements.
Who We Disclose It To
Where you ask us to arrange credit, your information is disclosed to the lenders you apply to, and may be disclosed to lenders mortgage insurers, valuers, credit reporting bodies, our aggregator, and professional advisers such as your conveyancer or accountant where you direct us to.
Applying for credit generally involves a credit reporting body, and an application will usually be recorded on your credit file as an enquiry. We do not sell your information, and we do not disclose it for the marketing purposes of third parties.
How It Is Stored
Information is held in electronic and, where relevant, physical form, with access limited to those who need it. We take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Records relating to credit assistance are retained for as long as required by law, which for credit activity is generally at least seven years.
This Website
This site does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and it loads no third-party scripts. The map on the contact and service pages is embedded from OpenStreetMap; loading it involves a request to that service, which will receive your IP address as any web request does. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, and the host records standard server logs.
Access, Correction and Complaints
You can ask what personal information we hold about you and request access to it or correction of it. Contact us on (03) 4329 0718 to do so. We will respond within a reasonable period, and where we decline a request we will explain why.
If you believe your privacy has been breached, raise it with us first. If you are not satisfied with the response, complaints about credit activity can be taken to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, and privacy complaints to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
